Catherine is passionate about all things natural, organic and colourful, which comes through in her practice and her approach to her medium. Often our lives are consumed with bad news about the state of the natural world, but Catherine engages with these issues from a place of joy and reverence.
"The world is a beautiful mystery, and I want so much to express through my artwork. I have always worked in series, and love the evolution and deepening that happens along the way."
Catherine studied visual art at the Canberra School of Art from 1987 to 1991. From 1992 - 2006 she lived largely overseas, with art running like a thread throughout. "Whatever else I was doing, I have always kept making work, & when time has been short, taking notes, planning works, & thinking about creating."
In the last four years, Catherine has settled more deeply into her art practice: "It is my intention to do more art and less of anything else that gets in the way, and putting my work out there has been the first step. I have had such a positive response to my paintings, with people telling me how joyful the work makes them feel. I feel so blessed to be able to communicate in this way.'
Catherine currently lives in Sydney with her husband, daughter and a willful cat called Nina Willow.
