Chrysa Koukoura is a Greece-born, London-educated, Bangalow-based illustrator whose works are intricate, detailed, and intriguing.
Inspired by nature and minimal art, her work is completed mainly with fine-line pens and a lot of time. With works taking between eight and sixty five hours, Chrysa says, 'I treat each drawing like reading a book. I do a bit each day until it is complete.'
Working as a full-time artist from a small wooden house studio - 'shared between myself, a small publishing company, a letterpress company and a designer,' as she says - Chrysa's work is largely black and white, with some metallic elements being recently introduced.
Having come from a graphic design background, her process as an illustrator is still full of design influences. 'At the moment I'm obsessed with art-deco graphic design and buildings,' she says, 'as well as 60s psychadelic band posters.'
In the future, Chrysa hopes to exhibit at international art fairs and would love to work on 'a huge mural' or some textile designs.
