With a fresh approach to drawn images, Dominique Gauci’s art making practice produces clean geometric forms that culminate in a map of recognisable faces.Following the completion of a Bachelor degree in Communication Design at Swinburne University, Dominique began developing her own personal style of works whilst studying in New York City in 2015.
Dominique’s process is a careful one. She begins with a sourced image or one from custom request. She then maps out a grid of shapes and geometric patterns to construct an image, which she later fills in with line work. To achieve the precision her artworks demand, Dominique uses fine liner pens but also keeps paints and other art materials ready at hand in a light-filled studio attached to her house.
When she isn’t making art, Dominique works in social media marketing and as and account manager and a graphic designer.Though she wouldn’t describe their art practices as similar, Dominique admires artist Nick Thomm and dreams of doing a collaborative with one of his fluorescent, abstract designs.
