Georgina Ross is an emerging printmaker based in Melbourne and creates limited edition drypoint prints. Her character-based works have been described as ‘articulating the emotional interior’ each solitary figure captured in a moment of truth; a moment of vulnerability.
Georgina Ross has exhibited in several group and solo exhibitions both in Melbourne and Sydney. In 2014, her works have been selected as part of group exhibitions including Curvy at Semi Permanent Gallery in Sydney and Supergraph, Contemporary Graphic Art Fair in Melbourne.
Her animal prints personify the unique character traits of people and animals that she observes in her daily life. She finds inspiration through admiring the quirky and off-centre qualities of objects, people and animals. Using a mix of precision in her lines combined with an expressive distortion of character features she creates unique artworks with their own personalities.
Her approach to creating art is experimental and perceptive, valuing experience and process, which are qualities that have drawn her to the art form of printmaking. Georgina Ross enjoys the process of printmaking and has been experimenting with this medium since 2011, carving out her mark within this field of art. She uses a copper or Perspex plate with a fine-point steel etching needle to create her works.
Georgina Ross studied Creative Arts at university combining visual art, theatre and music. She has also studied various printmaking techniques at the Australian Print Workshop in Melbourne.
