MCE is an emerging artist and expressive painter, with a strong foundation in drawing and human anatomy.
As a child, he grew up in an extraordinarily creative family of artists and musicians in Colombia. He has fond memories of painting with his grandfather who taught him to paint at a young age and developed his creativity through many disciplines of art. They often painted together outdoors in the sunlight and also in dark places like caves to develop an insight into working in light and shadows. Looking back at his childhood memories, MCE appreciates the small but significant lessons he discovered about his own imagination and the limitless boundaries of art.
His preferred medium of choice is water colour and ink, often using nibs and brushes to apply the paint onto paper. He enjoys the fluidity and quality of water colour as an expressive medium. "My process has been about self reflection and discovery, beginning with water colour painting". For MCE, using nibs and brushes allows him to develop a combination of precise thin lines and bold thick lines.
His current series ‘Beautiful lines’ reflects MCE’s art making practice, that attempts to strip back the meaning of art as a language, creating a raw communication between the artist and viewer. "My passion for drawing led me to propose an expressive language of my authorship based on and shaped by thoughts and feelings about art and life."
MCE is a Sydney based artist. He has studied Fine Art in Colombia and continues his passion to paint the world around him, one artwork at a time.
