A large part of Stu Freeman's life has been surrounded by creatives; both grandparents working as art teachers in both painting and sculpture. Painting was his first love - creative abstract images and scenes, but later moving to photography which has been a huge part of his life for the last 10 years, shooting both digital and film.
We have two series of Stu Freeman's work on Art Pharmacy. The latest series titled 'Merge' was shot using digital camera in colour with a focus on exploring how the subject merges with the background. The second series titled 'Crop' because subject being cropped to allow the view to make their own mind up what he or she would look like - all in black and white. Each photo was taken like this and not cropped afterwards. The majority of this series were shot using a 35mm point and shoot camera, however he shoots both digital and film with a whole bunch of cameras. He has been experimenting in cropping and framing subjects differently for about a year.
Stu's inspiration comes from the street and the people that spend their day going from place to place (he lives in Bondi beach). Martin Parr and Rennie Ellis are photographers that inspire him.
