Bec Kilpatrick is a visual explorer, who finds inspiration as she traipses the beautiful coastlines and national parks of NSW, and trawls through natural history books.
Illustration, watercolour painting and photography are Bec’s usual modes of expression. She sometimes fuses these practises to explore the capabilities of each medium, as well as the interplay between them.
Driven by a gratitude for the beautiful natural spaces that we’re free to explore – both here in Australia, and overseas - Bec works to capture the unique essence of each place she visits, in order to share it with the viewer.
Although she plans a basic opposition of subjects and aesthetic elements, Bec allows intuition to guide the development of the work as it unfolds.
Bec describes her process as quite spontaneous, guided more by the evolution of each piece, rather than a strict, pre-determined plan.
