Charles Hebert is Sydney artist, based in the Inner-West, who works predominantly with oil paint, creating works in the abstract style. In his practice, Hebert uses a vast range of palette knives and brushes which allow him to get deep into his work, “creating textures that are inviting”. “I always stretch my own canvases,” Charles says of his practice. “I feel that is an important process of creating an artwork.”
His current work is inspired by Sydney’s architecture and the relationship it has with people; something that is expressed through creating a painting from many layers of paint, creating a work that is “alive and active”. His dream future projects include making a work on a massive scale - “the bigger, the better”.
