Barcarolle, after Chopin, was painted to be exhibited during a performance of Chopin’s piece – ‘the song of the boatman’. The image was inspired by my experience of being at Glenbrook Lagoon in the Blue Mountains on a glorious Summer’s evening, with my children. The intensity of the sky, the beauty of the moment and my emotion seemed to encapsulate the mood in Chopin’s Barcarolle.

I paint the sky because it is a boundless space, often beautiful, but not benign. The transience of light and form allow me to free-fall and to glide, to experience disorientation, peace, euphoria…
