Salleigh Olsen's paintings have a vibrant energy that radiates a contemporary abstract expressionist edge.
Internally driven to create art at a young age, Salleigh Olsen has cultivated her skills through her studies at the International School of Colour and Design Sydney and National Art School Sydney. She has exhibited her works in several Sydney galleries including Salerno gallery, Art 2 Muse, Blank Space gallery and Kaleidoscope gallery. In 2014, she was commissioned to paint public murals for Carousel Bondi and Casoni Italian Bar and Eatery Darlinghurst as well as a feature dining table for the restaurant. She has also been commissioned by Sydney Dance Company and Bookfari Book Store’s main office feature. Having sell out exhibitions, she has also done many private commissions for residencies, along with winning awards for her prized paintings.
Olsen's expansive surfaces have a commanding presence with an equally large personality that re-energises static walls and spaces. Her collection of works are characterised by abstract objects and female figures juxtaposed with typography and elements of design. In her work, she explores; beauty, sexuality and the allure of the female figure. Her figures are poised with an air of feminine confidence, mystique and coyness, all subtly expressed in her prominent dark outlines.
Colours play a pivotal role in creating tension within her work, her soft feminine hues are contrasted with dark, harsh outlines. She primarily works with acrylic and oil paint on canvas and wood and also incorporates mixed media to add textured layers.
Sydney based artist Salleigh Olsen continually looks for new creative opportunities to extend her practice and has interests in human sculpture, installation and performing arts.
