In its most basic sense, a Mandala, or 'circle' is a symbol used in spiritual practice to represent the universe. A mandala can be used as a focus of concentration in meditation, eventually becoming internalised and inducing a sense of calm, and a deeper understanding that form and emptiness are different manifestations of the same infinite flow. I find that the repetition involved in painting mandalas serves the same purpose, and have been told by many people how pleasing and soothing they find the circular forms. To me, this mandala conveys a sense of immanence, although ultimately, the meaning of the forms & colour is personal.
